The prosperous Kingdom of Greengully, ruled for centuries by the Forever King, has issued a decree to its citizens to colonize the vast lands beyond its borders. In an effort to start a new village, the Forever King has selected 6 citizens for the task, each of whom has a unique set of skills they use to build their charter.
The teaser trailer for Charterstone by Stonemaier Games has been released and I must admit, I’m a fair bit excited.
Legacy Worker Placement
Charterstone is a worker placement legacy game for 1-6 players. In it you’ll be competing with other players as you build up a shared village using stickers placed on the board. The rules will unfold as you go as well, having you add rules stickers into blank areas in the rule book as they are unlocked.
The game is played over 12 sessions and the board you end up with is designed to be played on indefinitely. The board is also two-sided, so if you want to play through the campaign again, you only have to purchase the recharge pack to play it another time.
For the Family
I am especially looking forward to this game because of it being for ages 10+. The official time on BoardGameGeek is 45-75 minutes, which easily fits into the attention spans of my two youngest children, making this the first legacy game that I feel comfortable playing with my entire family.
I have been looking forward to adding a legacy game to our family board game nights as a way to share the experience of exploration and unfolding with my children. We build memories playing board games together, and there is something especially bonding with a legacy game. Unfortunately there hasn’t been anything yet that fit my family’s range of ages and play styles. From what I’ve seen so far, it appears that Charterstone will be the legacy game I’ve been looking for and for me, it will be an automatic pre-order.
Charterstone is due to be released in October 2017 and is available for pre-order now at many games stores. Check out Stonemaier Games for a list of retailers.
